VIVE LE BOUDIN IRLANDAIS!

The French celebrate the Irish Black Pudding

I am a French National who has been living in County Cork for over 5 years. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food served in my local restaurants (I live in Midleton, East Cork) and I love discovering new products, mostly from my local Supervalu and the Midleton Farmers Market. Back in September, I bought some black pudding made by Rosscarbery Recipes and I found it to be excellent.

A few weeks later, to my amazement, I heard about some French ‘black pudding’ fraternity travelling from Normandy to Cork to open the Food Festival in Douglas (Cork) on the 22nd September 2010 and reward 3 Irish butchers for their black puddings. The festival was organised by Isabelle Sheridan, the French proprietor of the delicatessen ‘On the Pig’s Back’ stall at the English Market in Cork. The French-made black pudding occasionally for sale at the On The Pig’s Back counter also tastes fabulous. I was glad to hear that my country fellows appreciated different versions of our ‘boudin noir’ however and were making it known internationally!
